The Primate Checklist 🐒
Rwanda and Uganda's wilderness hides a roster of smaller, rarer primates that you shouldn't miss.

L’Hoest’s Monkey: The "gentleman" of the forest with a striking white beard.

Golden Monkey: Endemic to the Virunga. They exist nowhere else on Earth.

Black-and-White Colobus: Famous for their dramatic "flying" leaps through the upper canopy.

Grey-Cheeked Mangabey: A rugged, shaggy forest dweller.

Blue Monkey: They aren't bright blue, but rather a sophisticated slate-grey that shimmers in the morning mist.

Red-Tailed Monkey: Instantly recognizable by their heart-shaped white noses and copper tails.

Forget the cliche primate experience that's all about the "Big Two." Get to see the entire ecosystem in high definition.

Yes, you might be travelling alone but on safari, you are rarely lonely. In fact, going solo is often the most social way to experience the wild. Without a travel partner to lean on, you become more involved.
If you are joining one of our small groups, the easiest way to break the ice is right in the safari vehicle. Sharing the hushed adrenaline of a first lion sighting or helping a fellow traveler spot a leopard in the thicket creates an instant bond.

When it comes to our guides, remember that they are the heartbeat of the safari. They aren't just there to drive; they are amazing storytellers with deep, ancestral knowledge of the land. To really connect with them, ask the "why" instead of just the "what." Ask about the folklore of the stars you're sitting under or what the bush looked like when they were children. You’ll find that when you show a genuine interest in their heritage, the professional barrier melts away, and you gain a friend who is eager to show you the "hidden" side of the wilderness.

We obsess over these tiny details of human interaction. We love to subtly bridge the gap for our solo guests, introducing you to communal moments that feel like a natural invitation rather than a forced itinerary. By the time you’re heading back to the airstrip, you’ll likely find that the people you met are just as unforgettable as the gorillas you tracked.

Why the Green Season Is Perfect for a Solo Safari 🌿
Traveling solo in East Africa? The green season (roughly November–May in much of East Africa) Away from some rainy days that might limit your activities, this might be the smartest time to go.
More affordable. With fewer travelers around, many camps offer lower rates and attractive solo-friendly deals making luxury safari experiences far more accessible.
More intimate game drives. Fewer vehicles in the parks mean quieter sightings and more time with guides, which naturally leads to deeper conversations and connections.
Calving season magic. Yes, the Great Migration is spectacular but the January–March calving season in the southern Serengeti brings thousands of newborn wildebeest each day, creating some of the most dramatic wildlife moments of the year.
A living landscape. The rains transform the savannah into lush green plains, migratory birds arrive in large numbers, and stormy skies create incredible photographic scenes.
For solo travelers, the green season isn’t just quieter, it's more intimate, and often more affordable.

Rwanda is often called the "Land of a Thousand Hills," but for the solo traveler, it’s the Land of a Thousand Welcomes.

If you’re looking for a destination that balances adventure with total peace of mind, Rwanda should be at the top of your 2026 . It’s a solo traveler’s paradise:

Rwanda is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in Africa. As a solo traveler, you can breathe easy knowing the logistics are seamless and the streets are incredibly welcoming.
Trekking to see the Mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park is a deeply personal, life-changing experience. You don’t need a partner to feel the magic when a silverback looks you in the eye.
Head to Nyungwe National Park for a suspension bridge walk high above the rainforest. It’s quiet, breathtaking, and perfect for solo reflection among the primates and ancient trees.
Rwanda is compact! You can go from the vibrant cafes of Kigali to the volcanic peaks or the savannahs of Akagera in just a few hours. It’s the perfect "intro to Africa" for those navigating solo.
Rwanda’s commitment to conservation and community-led tourism means your solo journey is also a responsible one. You’ll feel a deep connection to the land and its people.

❤️ What Couples Should Know Before Booking a Safari Together

Safari isn’t just about where you choose to go, its how you want to feel.
Before you even look at maps, talk about what kind of mood you want. Slow and indulgent? Adventurous and active? Quiet and tucked away? That clarity shapes everything that follows.

Travel fatigue is real.
If you’re flying far, especially after a wedding or busy season, give yourselves breathing room on arrival. A calm first evening helps you actually enjoy those sunrise drives instead of surviving them.

Privacy looks different in different camps.
Some lodges are intimate with only a handful of suites. Others have more social spaces and shared dining. Neither is wrong, it depends on whether you want seclusion or a little shared atmosphere in the evenings.

Choose one or two “wow” moments not ten.
A night in a treehouse. A private vehicle for one special day. A bush dinner under lantern light. You don’t need every upgrade, just the right ones.

Remember that safari runs on rhythm.
Early mornings, midday rest, late afternoon drives. The downtime isn’t empty, it’s part of the experience. That’s when you sit on your deck, nap, talk, or do absolutely nothing together.

Packing smart makes a difference.
Soft neutral clothing, layers, comfortable shoes and one outfit that makes you both feel good for a special dinner or surprise moment.

Think about the “after.”
Many couples love ending with water, whether that’s the coast, an island, or even a lodge with a plunge pool. The contrast between bush and beach deepens the experience.

And finally, work with someone who understands how all the pieces fit.
Flight timings, camp locations, wildlife movement, room positioning. When these are handled properly, the journey feels seamless instead of stitched together.
