Life among the Bokora.

The Bokora are one of the Karamojong sub-clans, where cattle and livestock remain an important part of daily life.

Most of the shepherds you meet are young boys who spend their days looking after the animals, leading them to pasture and water and keeping the herd together.

From a young age, they learn the skills and knowledge of herding from those who came before them. It is a way of life that connects generations and remains part of everyday life in Karamoja.

16 days of Adventure

Karamoja new adventure travel itinerary Launched

To mark World Tourism Day, Kara-Tunga Tours joined the Adventure Tourism Uganda coalition at Adrift uganda Camp in Jinja to launch four new adventure itineraries across the country.

Our contribution introduces The Warrior Nomad Trail, an adventure through northeastern Uganda Karamoja sub-region.

The trail combines outdoor adventure, mountain biking, wilderness trekking, and authentic cultural encounters across the savannahs and highlands.

We were honored to host Her Excellency Ambassador of the Netherlands to Uganda and world Olympic champion Halimah Nakaayi for the day’s events.

Guests also participated in community games and interactive showcases highlighting alternative ways to explore Uganda.

This week, we delivered food to families in Karenga whose crops were destroyed by elephants and to vulnerable and elderly people in the IK community in Timu Sub-county.

When elephants destroy a family’s crops, they take away much more than a harvest. They take away food that families depend on for the days ahead.

We delivered food to help families through this difficult period, but the need is far from over.

The fundraiser is still ongoing, and more affected families need our support. Donate today and help put food on the table for a family facing hunger.

Meet the Ik people of Karamoja.

High in the mountains of northeastern Uganda, the Ik have a way of life shaped by their environment, history and strong sense of community.

Their colourful beads are more than decoration. They are part of how people express identity, beauty and belonging. The way they dress also carries meaning, shaped by tradition and everyday life in the mountains.

From their homes and daily routines to their crafts and stories, spending time with the Ik offers a chance to see Karamoja from another perspective.

After a week of celebrating Karamoja, we are back to something that matters just as much….saving lives.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our posts, and stood with families facing hunger across Karamoja.

But the work isn’t over.

We are continuing the Food for Karamoja fundraiser to reach families who missed the relief and communities whose crops were destroyed by wildlife.
