Abbeville County’s top hiking spot is the 26 mile Long Cane Trail, located in the Sumter National Forest. With multiple trailheads connecting each segment, visitors can experience a dazzling array of natural beauty, from rare s**g bark hickories to unique rock formations—and of course, the native plants and wildlife! Be sure to wear hiking shoes, bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen, and be mindful that you may see animals like snakes on the trail—leave them alone and they’ll leave you alone! Happy hiking!

We heard it was National Hotdog Day! Abbeville County is home to not one but TWO iconic hotdog restaurants, the Rough House and Saxon’s Hotdogs! Whether you’re or (yes, in Abbeville hotdogs are a big deal 😂) there’s nothing quite like a hotdog and a coke on a hot summer day!

For National Parks and Recreation Month, spend the day at Parsons Mountain in Abbeville County! This local favorite features a lake, several trails (including one to the top of this 832 feet peak), and plenty of room for picnicking, swimming, fishing, hiking, and primitive camping—and it’s dog friendly! For our history lovers, the land that became this public use park was originally part of the Cherokee Nation before being purchased by Revolutionary War veteran James Parsons—AND there was once a gold mine on the site!

If you’ve never been to Calhoun Falls State Park, you’re in for a treat—located on the shores of Lake Russell, this peaceful retreat is one of South Carolina’s most in-demand camping destinations. Visitors can bring the camper and stay for a week by the lake, or come for a day and enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking on the park’s two trails. Scenic beauty, wildlife, and recreation—something for everyone!
