The PLAN for Dr. Shane!
Yesterday was all about getting him familiar with our clinic and showing him what wildlife rehabilitation is all about. We also filmed an update on our little bobcat… although quite a few viewers apparently failed to notice the CAT! 😆
The video had 140,000 views from 97,000 viewers last night. Do the math. Some of you ladies were watching more than once! We were cracking up at the comments!
And yes, he is adorable when he geeks out over the animals. The first time he saw our roadrunner a few weeks ago, he dropped everything in his hands, curled into the fetal position and squealed. I knew right then he was meant to be here!
Dr. Shane is a brand-new veterinarian. Once I have permission, I’ll share where he works so you can take your pets to him for care. Yes, you must have an animal. Yes, it needs to belong to you. And yes, we have local hotels that allow pets for those driving in from out of state. Let’s just get those questions out of the way. 😆
Now, here’s the important part: We have an opportunity to turn $25,000 into $50,000 for veterinary care at Wild Heart Ranch.
(UPDATE SINCE I POSTED THIS! With the checks coming in the mail, we have MET OUR GOAL!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU ALL!!!!💚)
As much as Dr. Shane would love to volunteer, the man has a DVM to pay for, and his time and skills deserve compensation.
I have secured a matching grant of up to $25,000 specifically for his wages here. That means the foundation will match what we raise, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. If we raise the full amount, we’ll have $50,000 dedicated to his scheduled veterinary work.
That will cover a year of his very part-time schedule with us (he does have a day job) without taking from our already tight staff budget, which we fund through Facebook creator earnings rather than donations. My plan is to raise dedicated funding each year so we can keep him here.
If you would like to help, you can donate directly to this post or through the links in the comments. For PayPal, Venmo or Cash App, please include “Dr. Shane” with your donation.

Dr. Lilla NEEDS backup. Finding veterinarians who can come into an all-species wildlife rehabilitation clinic handling more than 5,000 intakes a year is no small task. Asking them to donate that time makes it even harder. The job description alone gets a pretty understandable “NOPE!”
We have someone who wants to be here, wants to learn and wants to help. We need to make this possible.
Dr. Shane will join us on Wednesdays and some Saturdays. I’m hoping we can film enough “Go WILD with Dr. Shane!” educational videos to share one each day during the week. He is also a dedicated reptile enthusiast so he may bring some of his animal friends from home to share with everyone. I am looking very forward to that!
His excitement about the animals is wonderful, but so is his commitment to education and conservation for wildlife. Together, we can help people get to know these animals while creating content that helps pay for their care. Our clinic and this platform give him a place to contribute, and I am THRILLED for our team and the animals we serve.
So… DON’T SCARE HIM OFF! 😆
Thank you to everyone who made him feel welcome. We’ve had our fun-now let’s keep the comments respectful so he stays comfortable in front of the camera. I really need his help, and you might even learn something if you remember to look at the animal! :D
Thank you for helping us build a future with more veterinary support for the wild lives who need us.
XO!
