From bike paths to big cities, the Empire State Trail winds through some unforgettable towns. Here are five worth slowing down for:
🚲 Manhattan, NY – The southern end of the trail kicks off in classic NYC fashion: riverside riding, skyline views, and access to greenways most locals don’t even know exist. A surprising breath of fresh air.
🏛 Albany, NY – The state capital has more than politics - ride past historic architecture, catch a show at The Egg, or cruise the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail just outside the city.
🎷 Saratoga Springs, NY – Known for its performing arts scene, mineral springs, and classic downtown charm. It’s the perfect overnight stop with great eats and even better people-watching.
🟠 Syracuse, NY – This central hub offers a blend of trail access, university-town energy, and nearby lakes. Stop at the Erie Canal Museum or explore the Inner Harbor before heading back out.
🌊 Buffalo, NY – A city of reinvention. Hit the Canalside boardwalk, grab wings at a neighborhood bar, and finish your ride at Lake Erie with a real sense of arrival.
We also highlight where to stay in each spot… because good lodging can make or break a trail day.
