On April 8, 2024, a spectacular total solar eclipse will cross New York between 3:15 and 3:30 p.m.

Albany will only see 96.9% coverage, but here's where and when across New York you'll be able to experience totality.

Don’t miss it; you’ll have to wait at least another 20 years before you will be able to see another total eclipse from the U.S.

✨The northern lights going off over Letchworth State Park last night.

☀️🌙 Geomagnetic storms can sometimes cause the northern lights, “aurora borealis,” to dance bright enough to barely see with the naked eye over the Genesee Valley. With long photo exposure, you can see them more clearly and get a jaw-dropper photo.

👀You can check the status of “aurora weather” on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website: swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast, or download one of many aurora tracker apps.

📞The park is open every day from 6am to 11pm. Please call the Visitor Center at (585)493-3600 for more information about special photography projects, including drone permits.

❄️ In anticipation of today’s snowfall, remember that winter weather can close roads in Letchworth State Park.

📍 Throughout the snow season, Park Road can close between the Castile gate and Gibsonville, north of the Perry gate.

💦 This means that to access the falls area during winter weather closures, you can use the Castile gate, 6787 Denton Corners Road, Castile, NY.
