As an official Bird City Wisconsin and a Viking Cruise port stop, the City of Algoma and the Bird City Algoma committee appreciate Viking's bird protection efforts.

Our 2 expedition ships have implemented proactive measures to reduce lighting and the risk of attracting and disorienting birds to the ships’ decks by activating "bird mode"—dimming lights on the decks, automatically closing window blinds and drawing curtains in communal areas.

September 23, 2024: Cruise Ship Day in Algoma, WI with Le Champlain.

For the final Cruise Ship Day of the 2024 season, the Viking Octantis will be in Algoma, WI on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

September 18, 2024: The Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center was excited to chat with a scientist aboard the Viking Octantis this morning.

Bryce is a Marine Microbiologist with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, CA.

She is currently a visiting field scientist on assignment with Viking Cruise Lines in the Great Lakes.

The project she is working on is called Genomics At Sea Project or GASP. She is sampling microbial communities in the Great Lakes

The City of Algoma received word this afternoon, September 4, 2024, that Le Champlain's September 5th arrival and departure times have changed.

Arrival in Algoma: 7 AM. Departure: 5 PM.
