One of the best parts of the being a port with the Viking cruise ships is meeting people from all over the world and sharing our area with them.

On the ship that stopped in Algoma on August 16, 2026, the cruise crew let the passengers know that Algoma was hosting the Shanty Days festival.

This couple originally from London, now living in Texas, stopped by our mobile visitor center at the marina and asked about it, so we escorted them to the Street Fair and Arts & Crafts Fair just as things were opening up.

We saw several others passengers with their LOVE Algoma bags checking things out as well!

The next Cruise Ship Day is August 29, 2026.

Comments on the post included many who were here on July 4th and partook in the Bloody Mary record at Smashed on the Rocks!

What a wonderful first cruise ship day in Algoma! 🚒🌊
We were excited to welcome passengers from the Viking Polaris to our community and share the charm, hospitality, and beauty of Algoma and the Door Peninsula.

Joining the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce’s Mobile Visitor Center were City of Algoma Mayor James Winter and Destination Door County, helping greet visitors and provide information about all the great things to see, do, shop, and experience in the area. Each passenger received a bag that includes our Friendly Algoma guidebook and a list of special events and activities going on during their visit.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day special and welcoming for our guests. We look forward to an exciting 2026 cruise ship season ahead! Algoma welcomes the Viking Octantis on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
