Alliance Youthful Chamber Orchestra Opens for the Spring Session on
Saturday, January 17, 2025.
In the fall of 1992 string musicians, Xirlita Oliveira and the late Betty Onyett created the orchestra originally as the Youth Chamber Orchestra. As it has evolved into a more dynamic organization with its identity rooted in Alliance, Ohio, the name has changed to the Alliance Youthful Chamber Orchestra.
The orchestra is composed of and open to musicians from the greater Alliance, Sebring, Salem, and Canton/Minerva geographic areas. Participants include elementary through high school ages and adults who play violin, viola, cello, and string bass. There is no audition, just attend with a desire to make music with others!
Orchestra goals are:
• enjoyment of and introduction to fine music,
• playing together in an ensemble experience
• ensuring an environment that is fun and encouraging
• bringing musicians with a wide range of ages and abilities together
to make music in a non-competitive, encouraging, relaxed environment
The repertoire includes a variety of classical, traditional, and contemporary selections. Composers of classics such as Bach, Albinoni, Boccherini, Handel, and Mendelssohn, as well as more current pieces and arrangements, to movie themes and Broadway melodies.
