If you had upcoming travel booked with Spirit Airlines, this is important. The airline has officially ceased operations and canceled all flights effective immediately, leaving many travelers needing to quickly adjust their plans.

So what should you do next? Here’s a quick guide:

🧾 Check your refund status.
If you paid with a credit or debit card, refunds are expected to be processed automatically. If you booked through a travel advisor, reach out directly for assistance.

💳 Contact your credit card company.
You may be able to file a chargeback if your flight was canceled due to the shutdown.

✈️ Look for alternative flights ASAP.
Other major airlines may offer limited-time “rescue fares” or additional availability to help affected travelers.

📅 Be flexible.

We have more concerns about our world of air travel these days. One of our concerns is being "bumped" from our flight. Would you know what to do if that happens?

Here are your rights:

Situations when bumped passengers ARE eligible for compensation:

If you are not bumped from a flight for one of the reasons above, you qualify for involuntary denied boarding compensation if an airline requires you to give up your seat on an oversold flight and:

You are departing from a U.S. airport;
You have a confirmed reservation;
You checked-in to your flight on time;
You arrived at the departure gate on time; and
The airline cannot get you to your destination within one hour of your flight’s original arrival time.

Do you suffer from "should I lock my luggage" every time you travel? We all worry about theft and it happens frequently. This is an excellent article about the pros and cons of locking your luggage. One note though...I used a TSA approved lock a few years ago when traveling to Jamaica. Not a good idea as Jamaica doesn't have TSA approved lock keys (TSA is only USA) and so they cut my lock off. I wasn't thinking that one through, for sure!

Happy holidays are coming! This year has flown by so fast, hasn't it? I've been busier than ever with creating new and adventurous journeys for my clients.
