It’s a cliché to mourn the passing of a prominent citizen by saying that she was the last of her kind, and, in Joan Tulp’s case, we sincerely hope that isn’t true: We need more like her.

"I love Amagansett so much." Many people have said those words but no one has said it so often and lived it so fully more than Joan Tulp. We were saddened to learn today of Joan's passing at age 96.

She was Amagansett's brightest flower and most ardent supporter and guardian of the good of this hamlet's natural beauty and charm.

Joan, a one-time Brooklynite, had the skill born to all New Yorkers: she would give it to you straight and look you in the eye, as both a caring listener and problem solver.

Her years-long work with the Amagansett Village Improvement Society has had a profound effect on the beautification of Amagansett. She also served with many other organizations, she was a tireless advocate for the community.

Joan never missed an AmOGansett Parade and served as the Grand Marshal in 2017. As a true queen, she wore a tiara and had a scepter; it's hard to say who had more fun: us or her.

We will remember Joan in that joyful way and the legacy of all her good works, beautiful spirit, and true friendship. Rest easy,
Joan. ❤️

Today's the day and the hour draws near...join us for the AmO'Gansett St. Patrick's Day Parade at noon today, right on Main Street. It will be lots of fun for kids and the young at heart. There will be an impressive line up of past grand marshals, Mr. Amagansetts, and organizations and individuals that make Amagansett such a wonderful place. If your parade ponies don't come dressed to the nines like ours, send 'em back! The gang at the Stony Hill Stables Foundation send the best dressed four legged beauties every year for the walk down Main Street. What's also fun are their young handlers, so excited to share their love of horses with others. See them tomorrow at the AmO'Gansett St. Patrick's Day Parade. We step off on Main Street at 12 noon, yippee!

East Hampton residents can safely dispose of hazardous household materials at the Montauk Transfer Station on Saturday, March 14 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

Items accepted include:

• Engine coolant
• Oil and latex/water-based paints
• Pesticides
• Stale fuel
• Flammable materials
• Chemical aerosols
• Thinners
• Urethanes

Proper disposal helps keep dangerous chemicals out of our groundwater and environment, protecting the water quality that our community depends on.

Find yourself a bus company that loves to participate in your hijinks every year and you've found your pot of gold! There is no other bus that wears the green or has the St. Patrick's Day spirit more than the Hampton Jitney! They show up each year, adorned in shades of green as they make their way down Main Street before they jet off to serve the community in a myriad of other ways. See them again this Saturday, March 14 at the AmO'Gansett St. Patrick's Day parade with our grand marshal Jim Lubetkin. We kick off at noon! ☘
