Camp Bauercrest is a Jewish overnight camp for boys located in Amesbury, Massachusetts, about 40 miles north of Boston, on the shores of beautiful Lake Attitash. We are a non-profit camp, led by an independent Board of Directors. Bauercrest offers a safe, enjoyable and meaningful camping experience for every camper. Our goal is to build a boy’s identity and self-esteem through the commonly held va

lues of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Achievement and Responsibility (our S.T.A.R. Here on the shores of Lake Attitash, we have created an environment where the campers are surrounded by their peers. Bauercrest promotes activities that stretch campers’ physical and creative abilities while providing positive role models with our trained counselor staff. We know that children grow best in a secure and safe environment where, within boundaries, they can practice making choices and taking risks, while being supported and guided by caring staff. We believe the summer camping experience is the greatest gift a parent can give a child, and we take this growth and development opportunity very seriously. At Bauercrest, campers make friendships that last a lifetime. Oftentimes, these relationships endure through their respective career paths. The majority of our campers and counselors return year after year, thus further strengthening the bonds of camaraderie. The friendships forged at Bauercrest transcend the boundaries of time and geography.

For a lifetime.

In a recent reflection, CJP President and CEO Marc Baker shared the impact Jewish summer camp can have on the lives of young people — a story he knows personally through his own 12 summers at Camp Bauercrest.

Marc first came to the Hillside as a homesick camper and went on to become a counselor, Group Leader, and Assistant Director. Looking back, he credits his years at Bauercrest with helping shape his independence, leadership, Jewish identity, and connection to community.

“So much of the person I am today is because of my time ‘on the hillside.’”

Marc’s story captures so much of what we believe makes summer camp special. The games, activities, traditions, and moments of a summer matter. But what lasts are the relationships, the opportunities to challenge yourself and grow, the feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself, and the community that becomes yours.

Those experiences don’t end when the summer does. They become part of who our boys are and who they will become.

As Marc writes, the impact on their lives and their Jewish journeys can truly last “for a lifetime.”

We’re grateful to Rabbi Baker for sharing his story and for continuing to champion the importance of Jewish summer camp for the next generation. We couldn’t be more thankful for the support from CJP - Combined Jewish Philanthropies and Foundation for Jewish Camp!

Dear Bauercrest Families,
We’re sorry if the tears in our eyes when you came to pick us up hurt your feelings. It’s not that we didn’t miss you. You know we did. It’s just hard to wake up without Reveille, immediately followed by Yaffa’s booming “GOOD MOOOOOOORNING, CAMP BAUERCREST!” It’s hard to wake up without all this. So please be patient with us. We love you so much. We’re just really, really campsick.
