The future of Orange County sports is bright.

We’re excited to introduce the finalists for the Rising Star Award at the 2026 OC Sports Awards - three emerging athletes who are already making a name for themselves.

Finalists:
⭐ Tyson Espy - Orange County Soccer Club | Soccer: At just 16 years old, Espy emerged as one of the nation’s brightest soccer prospects, earning U.S. Youth National Team call-ups while competing professionally for Orange County SC.

⭐ Ashlyn Gwynn - Cal State Fullerton | Soccer: Following a serious traffic accident in 2025, Gwynn’s return to campus in April 2026 to be honored at the Titan Awards was an inspiring highlight for the university's athletic department and student athlete community.

⭐ Bailey Turner - USA Surfing | Surfing: Carrying on her family's Huntington Beach legacy, Turner captured gold at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships and is currently the No. 1 ranked surfer in the WSL North America Women's Qualifying Series.

The talent across Orange County high school sports continues to impress.

We’re excited to introduce the finalists for Male High School Player of the Year at the 2026 OC Sports Awards.

Finalists:

🔥 Acen Jimenez - La Habra High School | Basketball: A dynamic point guard and floor general, Jimenez became La Habra’s all-time leading scorer while averaging more than 20 points per game and leading the Highlanders to another strong CIF postseason run, earning First Team All-Freeway League honors.

🔥 Luke Fahey - Mission Viejo High School | Football: Fahey, who is committed to Ohio State, established himself as one of the nation’s premier quarterbacks, completing 76% of his passes for 1,638 yards and 17 touchdowns for Mission Viejo in his senior year against elite competition.

🔥 Trent Mosley - Santa Margarita Catholic High School | Football: A dynamic USC-bound wide receiver, Mosley totaled over 1,000 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in a shortened nine-game season, leading his team to a CIF State Title and earning recognition as the LA Times Player of the Year.

Meet the finalists for Female High School Player of the Year at the 2026 OC Sports Awards.

These athletes have delivered outstanding performances and inspired those around them.

Finalists:
✨ Makena Cook - Orange Lutheran High School | Flag Football: One of the nation’s top girls flag football quarterbacks, Cook has amassed 13,694 passing yards and 215 touchdowns in two seasons while leading Orange Lutheran into CIF championship contention and helping elevate the sport’s profile nationally.

✨ Amalia Holguin - Sage School | Basketball: The senior guard, who recently committed to the University of Texas, capped her high school career by leading the Lightning to the state playoffs and is the youngest protégé from Kobe Bryant's Mamba youth girls’ basketball team.

✨ Jaslene Massey - Aliso Niguel High School | Flag Football: A nationally elite thrower and Oregon commit, Massey captured a Nike Indoor National Championship, set a California indoor state record in the shot put and posted one of the top discus marks in state history during a dominant season.

✨ Hunter Hernandez - UC Irvine | Basketball: A resilient leader for the Anteaters, Hernandez returned from injury to lead the team in scoring during key conference matchups, propelling UCI to another 20-win season.

✨ Jordyn Gather - Westcliff University | Soccer: Gather emerged as a key contributor and leader for Westcliff’s soccer program, recording 9 goals and 11 assists to lead the Warriors to a Cal Pac Championship and an NAIA postseason appearance.

✨ Kaylee Byon - Vanguard University | Basketball: The former Rosary Academy star and OC Player of the Year transitioned seamlessly to the PacWest, where Byon led the conference in assists and earned All-Conference honors for the Lions.

Meet the finalists for Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year at the 2026 OC Sports Awards - three athletes who stood out through exceptional performance and impact this year.

Finalists:
🔥Kyle Evans - UC Irvine | Basketball: Evans helped power UC Irvine’s nationally respected program with his all-around impact, consistency and leadership during another standout season for the Anteaters, appearing in all 32 games during the 2025-26 season.⁠

🔥Noah Plaza - Concordia University Irvine | Cross Country: Plaza made history for the Golden Eagles by becoming the school's first runner to earn back-to-back First Team All-PacWest honors after a runner-up finish at the 2025 championships.⁠

🔥Erik Howlin - Vanguard University | Basketball: The La Habra alum earned First Team All-PacWest honors in 2026, leading the conference in total points (558) and setting career highs for Vanguard in nearly every statistical category.

👏 Russ Davis - Vanguard University | Women's Basketball
One of the winningest coaches in NAIA women’s basketball history, Davis has built Vanguard into a perennial national contender with more than 700 career victories and multiple championship appearances.

👏 Natalie Nakase - Golden State Valkyries | WNBA
Nakase made history as the inaugural head coach of the Golden State Valkyries after helping guide multiple NBA and WNBA championship-winning organizations as an assistant coach and player development leader.

👏 Carson Palmer - Santa Margarita Catholic High School | Football In Palmer’s first season as head coach, the former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback and Heisman winner led his alma mater to an 11-3 record, a Trinity League title, and the CIF State Open Division championship.
