What to See in JC Thursday, May 14th & Friday, May 15th

Thursday-

Stone City River Access- Located just east of "The General Store" in Stone City along the Wapsipinicon River. (Follow Dearborn Rd to the Wapsipinicon River
Beautiful location with 1 acre of property that is surrounded by homes and the Historic stone buildings in town. Definitely would be a place for any Grant Wood lover to feel close to the famous artist.

Walk & Learn- Stroll through History- Meet at 5:15 across from Hartig Drug at the Old DX Station- Would be a great way for those who have lived there to get to know a little more history or bring back good memories and conversations, as well as those who are NOT from Monticello to learn some history on the community.

Hale Tap - 5522 Sanford St. Wyoming, IA- Come out and enjoy some local food, drinks and a friendly face. Then stop over at the Hale Wildlife Area and explore the trails and ponds.

Schmitt Farm Stand- 10663 2nd St, Center Junction, IA – Stop out at a local farm stand and enjoy some farm fresh eggs and goodies.

Sigler Farm- 9516 Julie Ann Dr. Anamosa, IA- Greenhouse open from 4-6pm with Hanging baskets, potting and bedding plants.

Friday-

Hale Wildlife Area- Located northeast of Hale, Iowa. Take County Road E-45 east out of Hale. Turn left onto 75th Ave. Turn left onto 62nd St. The parking lot for the Hale Wildlife Area is at the end of 62nd St.

The Hale Wildlife Area, a 420-acre area, located northeast of Hale, includes 6 ponds, 8 wetlands, and acres of upland, prairie, and forest habitat. It is the perfect location for fishing, hiking, or an afternoon of hunting. includes restored ponds, wetlands, and prairie, as well as a small wooded draw that provides vital habitat and recreational opportunities. The area is walk-in only…..This hidden gem is a great place with some ponds to fish, grassy trails(make sure you bring your bug spray and apply it before), you will find local wildlife, different bird species, deer, frogs and other wildlife possibly. Seems like you are driving to someone’s home but you pass that and there is a small parking lot with signs and an adventure just waiting to happen!

Muddy Boots Flowers- 121 E 1st Monticello, IA- Open 10am-5pm- Stop out and make yourself a beautiful bouquet from her bouquet bar. You can also bring a bouquet to your grad mom friend, grad, neighbor or make one for yourself. Practice Self Care!

The WY Saloon- 127 West Main Street, Wyoming, IA- Open early for Coffee, energy drinks and breakfast on Thursdays & Fridays as of now. Open at 5:30am…. I will add their burgers and fries are delishes! We also tried their crab ragoons that are house made and the have onion pieces in them and the sweet n sour sauce is a little tart but delishes!

Beringer Family Farms Farm Store- 28031 Goosehill Rd. Cascade, IA- From 2-6pm- Lots of great locally grown options, beef, eggs, freezer ready goodies, fresh baked goodies, sourdough bread, pasta and so much more!

Boondocks- 130 E Main Street, Anamosa, IA- Come out and try one of their tenderloin flights, drink flights or other great options that they have to offer! My personal favorite is their sliders with a tenderloin, burger and pulled pork, sweet potatoe fries and ranch to dip them in.

Anamosa Floral = 104 E Main St. Anamosa, IA- 9am-4pm- Stop out to treat yourself with a floral arrangement, a friend, co-worker or smell the candles and take one or two home! She has a great variety of items around her shop and has an eye for unique pieces.

City of Monticello - IA Parks & Recreation is having their First Biathlon on June 28th! Sign up today and try something new happening in Jones County this summer!

Join Monticello Parks & Recreation for a fun swim/run biathlon on Sunday, June 28 at 6 PM! Participants will take on a 150m swim at the Monticello Aquatic Center followed by a 1.5 mile run at the Monticello School Track.

Divisions include:
Youth – 17 & under
Adult – 18–49
Masters – 50+
