Happy Earth Day! As a business, we’re so grateful that our work revolves around the outdoors and that we’re able to recreate in these big wild places. As Alaskans, we recognize the effects of climate change and have seen the disastrous results in our own backyard. Now, more than ever, it’s important to recognize the impacts we have on earth, and what we can do to fight for it. Ascend Alaska gives back a portion of our profits to Alaska Native groups who have inhabited the lands for time immemorial and provide exceptional stewardship for Alaskan lands.

Meet our lead guide Miranda! Growing up in Homer Alaska, she spent her childhood playing sports, as an adult traveling abroad developing her sense of adventure, and as a kayaking guide in beautiful Kachemak Bay. You can find her on long mountain runs, playing in the ocean, and dancing to Fleetwood Mac. Miranda has a B.S in Psychology with a focus in recreational therapy, Wilderness First Responder certified, and Rec Level 1 Avalanche certified

As part of our guide bio series, meet our lead guide Justin, a lifelong Alaskan who was born and raised in Anchorage! After graduating from the University of Alaska with a B.S. in Physical Education, he spent his summers as a guide, traveling all over the state from the Brooks Range to Katmai National Park. It was during these travels that Justin realized his passion for the wilderness and the importance of sharing it with others. He is an avid film photographer and loves capturing portraits and landscapes. His winter passion is skiing, where he spends his time looking for powder in the mountains. Justin is a Wilderness First Responder, Swiftwater Rescue certified, and Rec Level 1 Avalanche certified.
