Won’t you be my neighbor? The historic Becker Home will be coming up for auction, right next to The Harris-Martin!

Thinking about bidding? As your potential future neighbor we would like to share the following:

- The Becker Home is more than an old house. Once the site of the Grimes County Courthouse, this is also a place where generations of Texans were born, raised families, and died. Respect that heritage.

— Please, please, please do not bulldoze this place of history. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. We believe the estimated renovation costs that have been made public are astronomically high and can lead a potential investor to take a “scrape and build” approach. It is time to stop that trend in Anderson.

— Do plan on a healthy renovation budget and timeline. Know that there are plenty of sources to purchase reclaimed flooring, lumber, and historic fixtures that don’t carry a Round Top price. Borski's Antiques has been a trusted, local source for our projects at The Harris-Martin.

— We will be developing our property into an active event venue space, complimenting our current use as a short-term vacation rental. I cannot promise that these will always be small, quiet, reserved functions.

Our beautiful new porch has been installed! Huge thanks to our contractor Kevin Wesley & his team for their work.

Although some of the original hand-hewn 6x6 cedar beams were still holding up, the modern untreated pine supports and decking had to all be replaced.

Next step is to choose a pleasant gray color for the paint.
