Apparently, the elk were waiting for Danny and Rebecca to leave! 😂🦌

They spent two weeks at Bear Necessities Lodge hearing elk nearby at night but never caught them visiting during the day.

Then, the day after they headed home, a herd of elk, complete with a bull, came running out of the greenbelt and around the lodge!

The wildlife definitely has its own schedule here in Angel Fire!

A lot happens behind the scenes at Bear Necessities Lodge!

Danny and Rebecca recently spent two weeks at the lodge preparing for winter, tackling extensive property maintenance, improvements, and deep cleaning.

One of their biggest projects was caring for the grounds. They cut down dead trees, gathered and stacked five large piles of branches and tree trunks for pickup, and raked up roughly ten trash cans of smaller twigs and debris. The five large piles were then hauled away. This work helps reduce wildfire fuel, discourage pests, and keep the outdoor spaces attractive and enjoyable for guests.

They also touched up paint and refreshed stain in select exterior areas, tightened deck railings and secured floorboards, and thoroughly scrubbed the decks and surrounding spaces to remove lingering concrete dust from our summer walkway project.

Inside, they completed a thorough deep cleaning beyond our regular guest turnovers.

Although we live in Texas, we’re hands-on owners who visit regularly to maintain and improve the property, with a wonderful local team helping care for the lodge between stays.

Our goal is simple: a clean, comfortable, well-maintained mountain home where guests can relax and enjoy their vacation.

The aspens at Bear Necessities Lodge are finally starting to turn golden!

While much of Angel Fire has already seen some beautiful fall color, the mature aspens around the lodge are taking their time.

We love watching the colors change right outside the cabin, and the trees are looking a little more golden each day!

When the neighbors have a disagreement… 🦌

These two bucks were caught locking antlers in the front yard at Bear Necessities Lodge!

We think they were arguing over who gets to stay at the lodge next. 😂

Well, this isn’t something we see every day! 🐾

Around 8 AM, our cameras caught a bobcat making its way behind Bear Necessities Lodge.

While bobcats and mountain lions live in northern New Mexico, sightings around the lodge are rare. We’re much more accustomed to seeing mule deer, elk, turkeys, and even bears.

You never know who might stop by next!
