🌴⛵ 10 THINGS FIRST-TIME BVI YACHT CHARTER GUESTS ARE SURPRISED TO LEARN
Thinking about your first yacht charter in the British Virgin Islands?
You might be surprised by how different a private yacht vacation is from a traditional resort or cruise. Here are 10 things many first-time guests don't expect:
1️⃣ You don't spend all day sailing. ⛵
The BVI islands are wonderfully close together. That means your day can be filled with snorkeling, beaches, exploring islands, beach bars and relaxing—not just getting from Point A to Point B.
2️⃣ Your itinerary isn't necessarily set in stone. 🗺️
One of the beauties of a private charter is flexibility. Your captain can help shape the itinerary around your interests, weather and sea conditions.
3️⃣ Your chef really wants to know what YOU like to eat. 👩🍳
Before many crewed charters, you'll complete a preference sheet covering favorite foods, beverages, allergies and dietary needs. Your meals can be planned around your group instead of a restaurant menu.
4️⃣ You may spend very little time at a marina. ⚓
Some of the most memorable nights are spent on a mooring or at anchor surrounded by beautiful Caribbean water rather than tied to a dock.
5️⃣ You can wake up somewhere different almost every morning. 🌅
Imagine opening your eyes at Norman Island one morning, Virgin Gorda another, and Jost Van D**e later in the week. Your yacht isn't just your accommodation—it's your transportation between islands.
6️⃣ You probably won't need nearly as many clothes as you think. 👙🩴
BVI yacht life is casual. Swimsuits, cover-ups, shorts, lightweight clothing and sandals will get plenty of use. And storage aboard a yacht makes packing light a very good idea!
7️⃣ There can be a LOT more to do than sit on the boat. 🤿
Depending on your yacht and itinerary, your week could include snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, hiking, beach hopping, exploring ashore and other water activities. Scuba diving can also be arranged on certain charters.
8️⃣ “All-inclusive” can include much more than first-time guests expect. 🍹
Many crewed BVI catamarans include the yacht, professional crew, meals aboard, standard beverages and a selection of water toys. Exactly what's included varies by yacht and charter agreement, which is one reason having a broker explain the details is so valuable.
9️⃣ Crew gratuity is generally separate. 💙
This surprises some first-time guests. Gratuity isn't normally included in the charter rate and is given at the end of the charter based on the service you receive.
🔟 The hardest part may be going home. 🌴❤️
After a week of waking up on turquoise water, eating breakfast on deck, swimming off the back of your yacht, discovering a new island and watching Caribbean sunsets every evening...
A hotel room might never feel quite the same again. 😉
