Boston is a city where everyone (and their mahm) has an opinion on where you absolutely have to go…and that’s part of the fun 🦞

three things we’d tell anyone before their first trip:

1️⃣ you really don’t need a car. Boston is compact, the T gets you most places, and walking/rolling through the city is half the point. just wear shoes that can handle bricks sidewalks and cobblestones, and have patience with your mobility aids if you have them.

2️⃣ don’t spend your whole trip downtown. walk the Freedom Trail, obviously, but save time for Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, Somerville, the South End + the neighborhoods where Boston feels less like a field trip (though we all yearn to feel like we’re in the Magic School Bus)

3️⃣ eat the classics, then keep eating. get the lobster roll, cannoli + roast beef. then go see why Boston’s food scene is so good

National Cheap Flight Day is August 23—but no, flight prices don’t magically drop tomorrow.

Here’s what “Cheap Flight Day” actually means (and how to find cheap flights this fall).

August 23 has become known as National Cheap Flight Day because it falls around the time summer travel demand starts winding down and fall shoulder season approaches. As demand softens, we often start seeing better airfare—and those cheaper prices can continue into the weeks ahead.

If you’re looking for cheap flights this fall, here’s what actually helps:

↔️ Be flexible. This is #1. Shifting your trip by even a day or two, traveling midweek, or being open to a few destinations gives you a much better shot at finding a low fare.

📅 Check the Google Flights calendar. Instead of searching one exact set of dates, look at the calendar to quickly see which combinations are cheapest.

📉 Track your fares. Set Google Flights price alerts for specific trips, or track trips in the Going app so you can keep an eye on fares you’re interested in.

📍 Check nearby airports. A different departure or arrival airport can sometimes mean a very different price.

🍂 Take advantage of shoulder season. September, October, and early November can bring lower fares after the summer rush. And if Europe’s Christmas markets are on your list, look at late November and early December rather than traveling over the peak Christmas and New Year’s holidays. You still get the twinkle lights and festive markets—often with cheaper flights. 🎄

💳 Don’t forget points and miles. Cash fares aren’t the only thing worth watching. Check award availability too—especially when cash fares are high or you have transferable points that give you multiple airline options.

✈️ When you find a genuinely great fare, book it. There’s no guarantee it’ll be even cheaper tomorrow just because we’re entering cheap-flight season.
