🥖 Fresh Bread, Local Passion, and a Fantastic New Find in Candler!

We recently stopped by Sisu Bread, located at 1463 Smokey Park Highway in Candler, and what a wonderful discovery!

Pictured here is Lindsay, the General Manager, whose husband, Matti is the owner and head baker. Together, they're bringing something special to Western North Carolina.

Using certified organic flour from North Carolina, traditional 24-hour fermentation, and a whole lot of passion, Sisu creates beautiful artisan breads bursting with flavor. You'll also find delicious pastries, cookies, and fresh coffee.

🍁 Coffee, Conversation, and a Lot of Fall Color! 🍂

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that don't require much of a plan. Just a beautiful fall morning, a winding mountain road, and a few stops along the way.

Yesterday's adventure started in the little mountain town of Rosman, NC, with a great cup of coffee from Stonefly Coffee, followed by a wonderful conversation with Carter and Brianna at Headwaters Outfitters Outdoor Adventures. It's these friendly encounters with local folks that remind us why we love calling Western North Carolina home.

From there, we headed up scenic Highway 215 toward the Blue Ridge Parkway, and what a drive it was! The fall colors were putting on quite a show, with brilliant yellows, oranges, and reds scattered across the mountainsides. Add in a few beautiful waterfalls and those winding mountain roads, and you've got the makings of a pretty spectacular day.

If you're looking for a beautiful fall drive, put Highway 215 on your list. And while you're at it, stop in Rosman, grab a coffee, and say hello to some of the wonderful people who make this corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains so special.

Days like this remind us that sometimes the journey really is the destination. 🍁

Two years ago, Hurricane Helene changed these mountains forever.

Today, on the second anniversary of the storm, we could share photographs of the devastation—the flooded communities, destroyed roads, fallen trees and places we barely recognized.

But those aren’t the images we want to remember.

Instead, we choose this one.

The Biltmore Estate, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, has long been a symbol of beauty, strength and determination. And in many ways, that is how we think about Western North Carolina today.

In the days and weeks after Helene, we watched this community come together in ways we will never forget. Neighbors helped neighbors. Strangers showed up with trucks, chainsaws, food, water, and willing hands. And some of our guests came to the mountains not for a vacation, but to roll up their sleeves and help with the cleanup.

Two years later, we are reminded of that spirit every single day.

We see it in the businesses that reopened their doors. In the towns that rebuilt. In the trails, rivers, and mountain roads that welcome us back. And we see it in the guests who continue to come here from across the country to experience these extraordinary mountains and communities.

There are scars from Helene that remain, and there are stories from those days that none of us will ever forget. But there is also tremendous beauty here. Resilience. Gratitude. And an extraordinary sense of community.

We are grateful beyond measure for the people who call these mountains home, for those who came to help when we needed it most, and for every guest who continues to come and experience this special corner of the world.

When we want lobster in the mountains, where do we go? The Lobster Trap. Every time. 🦞

Located in the heart of downtown Asheville, The Lobster Trap has been one of our go-to spots for years when we’re craving fresh seafood — and especially lobster.

From the lobster tank to the table, they do it right. Whole lobster, lobster rolls, lobster mac & cheese, lobster-stuffed mushrooms, and some pretty spectacular preparations coming out of the kitchen. And somehow, being hundreds of miles from the coast never seems to matter.

But it’s more than the food that keeps us coming back. The Lobster Trap has that comfortable, distinctly Asheville atmosphere we love — warm, lively, and unpretentious. On the right night, add some live music to the mix, and you’ve got a pretty great evening in downtown Asheville.
