It was another hot summer in Japan this year, so I escaped to Kibune in the mountains north of Kyoto.

Traditional summer culture.
Dine in a tatami room built over the river, with a cool river breeze blowing.
At least it’s 5 degrees Celsius lower than town.
And the river water is nice and cold.

The meal were fantastic.

This is a message from the ground staff of Kobe Airport to the winning high school baseball team.

The staff wrote this message knowing that the members of the winning school's baseball team were on a flight back to Okinawa.

And it is written in Okinawan dialect.

The outside temperature was about 37 degrees Celsius (98 degrees Fahrenheit).

"Congratulations, winners!
See you again.
August 23, 2025."

I had Akashi yaki last week and Tako yaki this week.

Akashi yaki is similar to Tako yaki but it is made of only an egg-rich batter and octopus dipped into dashi (a thin fish broth) before eating.
Famous in Akashi prefecture.

I enjoyed the view of early summer and dinner at “Yuka” in Kyoto.

"Kyoto Kamogawa Nouryou-Yuka"; Kyoto's summer tradition passed down from the culture of the Edo period.

It starts on May and end sometimes September.

Open-air seating by the Kamo River created by restaurants and tea houses where Japanese cuisine and drinks can be enjoyed.

It’s one of most traditional and popular attractions in Kyoto.

I went to Kobe to see Luminarie.

Beautiful ✨

At 5:46 a.m. on January 17, 1995,
the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake struck the city of Kobe.
It has been almost 30 years since the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.3, a maximum seismic intensity of 7, and caused extremely serious damage, with 6,434 deaths, 3 missing, and 43,792 injuries.

After the earthquake, Kobe received a lot of warm support from both within Japan and overseas, and overcame various hardships to rebuild. The Kobe Luminarie, which was first held in December 1995, the same year as the earthquake, became a symbol of this rebuilding effort.
The majestic light art that lit up the night of Kobe, about 11 months after the earthquake, when the city was still in the process of recovery, brought great emotion, courage, and hope to the city and citizens of Kobe, who were devastated by the disaster.
