Last week was busy for our new guides! Their training process is more than running trips on the mountain—it's learning the ins and outs of how we keep things moving here at IMG and on Mount Rainier!
They started their day learning how to refill our propane-fueled shuttle vans. We use these three vans to bring our clients up and down from Mount Rainier, and have converted them to run on clean-burning propane from a tank at our headquarters to reduce our emissions.
Next, IMG owner, Eric Simonson, took them up to the Kautz Heli Base to deliver our fuel tanks. When we pay the National Park to transport these tanks up to the mountain to fuel our teams, they also use the return trips to remove waste from Camp Muir, making it a win-win for everybody!
Their next task was to put up a new tent to help our teams beat the heat this summer during their gear checks, and use their impressive knot tying skills to keep it tethered to the ground.
They finished up in the IMG Gear Shop! Learning how to care for our climbing gear to give it the longest, safest possible life is a key part of how we do business, and a key part of how we train our guides!
