********** Casting for Walleye in Ashtabula Ohio*********
All I can say is Unbelievable!
On Tuesday morning I loaded up with a group of Amish guys from Dubois PA, pulled away from the dock at 4:50am and started the difficult task of finding a school of Walleye big enough to cast on. After steaming out of the Ashtabula River we made a turn to the west & the hunt was on. I set a course toward the commercial perch nets 9 miles to the west because the day before we did really good trolling there. I’m constantly watching the fish finder and about half way to my destination I noticed several marks on the screen so I slowed down & what I seen got me excited like a kid on Christmas morning. We grabbed our rods and dug out the slimy grimy’s (Night Crawlers) and after a brief tutorial on how to use a flipping harness the guys began casting. The first walleye came on an 11 count and then the rest of the charter was a blur, I couldn’t get there fast enough with the net it was like every cast “fish on”. Everyone was catching and having an absolute blast, Even I couldn’t help myself so I grabbed a fishing pole and caught my six fish also. Catching walleye while casting in the central basin of Lake Erie was unheard of just a couple years ago. Days like this is why I love my job, I just wish all of my groups could experience a day like this because it was literally and probably will always be the best casting charter ever done on the Taylor Made 2 in Ashtabula. I don’t know how we could ever top June 16, 2020, that day will be remembered by Ben Troyer & myself for a long, long, long, long time! Talk about a fish story & this one happens to be true!!!!!
