There's a particular kind of quiet that happens in the last few minutes before a marathon starts. Hundreds of people who don't know each other, standing shoulder to shoulder, most of them not saying much. Everyone's run their own version of the same thought a hundred times by then. It only lasts a minute or two before the gun goes off and all that quiet turns into noise, but it might be our favorite part of race morning. Ten months out from the next one, and we're already looking forward to it.

Late August has a way of feeling like the last easy Saturday before September makes the long runs official again. Maybe that's a trail above the valley, maybe it's pavement before the heat kicks in, maybe it's just a walk that turns into a jog somewhere around mile two. Whatever you're logging today, this is the last weekend it still feels optional. Enjoy it.

To every volunteer who showed up before sunrise, handed out water, cheered at mile 20, and stayed until the last finisher crossed: thank you. You are the heartbeat of this race, and the Aspen Valley Marathon doesn't happen without your energy, your encouragement, and your hours of service. We see you, our runners see you, and we're beyond grateful.

The Aspen Valley Marathon is on Saturday July 25, 2026. It includes the following events: Aspen Valley Marathon, Aspen Valley HALF Marathon, and Aspen Valley Marathon 5K.

Saturday was a good one. Thank you to every runner who toed the line, from the 5K to the marathon. Thank you to the volunteers who staffed 13 aid stations from Aspen to Basalt and kept everyone fed, watered, and smiling. And thank you to the families and friends who lined the Rio Grande Trail cheering on total strangers like they were their own. This race runs on all of you. See you next July!

That's a wrap on 2026, and we're already thinking about next July. Same trail, same downhill, same valley. If you missed it this year or you're already plotting your return, keep an eye out for 2027 registration. See you next summer.

What a day. The 2026 Aspen Valley Marathon is in the books — runners came from all over Colorado and beyond to fly down the trail and finish strong in Basalt.
