We love driving the Pass in the fall. You keep telling yourself you will pull over at the next good spot and then you never do, because every corner is better than the one before it. There is nothing else like this anywhere, and we get it right here for a few more weeks!

Last day for the Fall Early Bird. 10% off three nights or more, no code needed.

If there is a fall break coming up, mid-October is an easy few days up here. The crowds are long gone, the trails are yours, and the Maroon Bells shuttle runs through the 18th if you want the postcard without the summer line.

It is a short-trip season rather than a big-week one. Three nights, a couple of hikes, home by Sunday. Book today and it is 10% off.

There is one more week of this after today.

Oktoberfest runs until five, with the Bavarian costume parade around midday and people who commit far harder than you would expect. The last balloons go up over Town Park. And the aspens are at their absolute peak while all of it happens.

Then the quiet week starts, which plenty of people will tell you is the best one of the whole fall. Elk Camp runs its final weekend October 2 through 4, the gold usually holds, and the valley is yours.

Oktoberfest is on! Noon to eight today on the Snowmass Mall and in Base Village, and it is free to walk into.

B**r hall tables, German bier, the pretzel and sausage eating contest, stein holding, a Bavarian costume contest, and live music from Manuela Horn and The Brew Crew. Wear the lederhosen if you own them, because people around here commit.

The last weekend of September is the best one we get, and it is the one people most often get wrong.

Two festivals land on the same days. The balloons go up over Snowmass between seven and nine in the morning, so if you roll in at nine you have missed them. Come Friday evening instead, when they are tethered and glowing on the field from six and the pilots will talk to anyone who asks. Over in Aspen the Literary Festival is running the same weekend, and most of it is free with registration. The Wheeler main stage is ticketed, but the author talks around downtown are not.

Then the part we actually tell people. Pick two things. There is more in this weekend than anyone can do, and the ones who try spend it driving between Snowmass and Aspen instead of enjoying either.

A new home joined us this month: Snowmass Mountain A-5.

There is a hand painted sign by the front door that reads Hummingbird Alley, 5A. It tells you most of what you need to know about the place before you have even walked in.

Three bedrooms, sleeps six. Vaulted ceilings with hand hewn beams over an open kitchen and living room, a wood burning fireplace, and a wall of windows that puts the ski runs across the valley right in front of you. The primary sits up in the loft under its own sloped ceiling, king bed, low windows on either side framing the mountains. Out on the balcony there is a gas grill, which is where you will actually end up around six o'clock.

The shuttle stops right outside the building, there is one reserved parking space, and laundry is in the unit so you can pack light.

The sixth time.

Someone has now booked the same unit six times. They know the view, they know the walk into town, they know which drawer the corkscrew is in. That is not luck. It is the same local team looking after the same home every time, so it is the way they remember it when they walk back in.

September mornings here are cool and the first thing most guests do when they arrive is go looking for coffee. So we already have it there.

Guests will find it in a welcome basket on the counter with a handwritten note from whoever walked the home before they arrive.

That is the part of this job we actually care about. The corners nobody thinks to check, handled before you ever notice them.
