I just returned from a fabulous cruise, and I’m still basking in the afterglow. I sailed on a Silversea Cruises ship with fewer than 400 passengers, which made the experience feel intimate and relaxed—more like a floating boutique hotel than a cruise ship. Plus, small ship equals unique ports, places the big ships can't go.
The service was incredible. We had a butler who brought us dessert and cocktails at 9pm and even fixed my husband’s broken flip-flop (a level of service I didn’t know I needed). The crew came from all over the world and we enjoyed learning about their home countries. The passengers were international too. We met awesome folks and never lacked for great company.
Food was always available between the four restaurants and snack bar, and the bars were fully stocked with excellent wine and top-shelf spirits for creative cocktails.
Port days were long and leisurely, which gave us time to really enjoy each destination. Getting on and off the ship was effortless with a simple tap of our room key. Beach towels and umbrellas were waiting right by the exit, and when we returned, chilled washcloths and cold, flavored waters were ready us.
We love to snorkel, so that was our excursion of choice at nearly every stop. Even better, the ship’s own marine biologist often joined us, sharing fascinating insights along the way.
One of my favorite things about cruising is the ability to experience places that have long been on my list without committing an entire vacation to each one. And how else can you visit eight different destinations in eleven days without packing and unpacking over and over?
With a walk-in closet and a laundry room across the hall, our suite felt like having our own little apartment that just happened to move.
I have a boatload of cruises (pun intended) booked for clients this year across multiple cruise lines. There are more than 70, and one size definitely does not fit all. If you’ve been thinking about cruising, maybe it’s time to come aboard!
