I want to talk about something that’s been happening behind the scenes: being discriminated against while out filming at food and music festivals. We attend these events to showcase culture, flavor, and joy. We are here to uplift Black-owned businesses, support the community, and share the experience with all of you. But too often, what starts as a day of celebration turns into a moment of confrontation.
There’ve been times when we’ve been questioned aggressively about why we are filming, while other content creators nearby were left alone.
And let’s be real: this isn’t just about misunderstanding or policy. It’s about who gets the benefit of the doubt. Who’s seen as ‘professional’ and who’s seen as a ‘problem.’ As a Black creative, especially in predominantly white or non-diverse spaces, the scrutiny hits differently.
This isn’t just our story—it’s the story of so many Black creators who show up to do the work and still face barriers. To the organizers and brand reps watching this: We belong here too. And we deserve the same access, respect, and freedom to create as anyone else.
