Okay folks, you asked for it, so here it is. These are my top five destinations for individual travelers for solo trips or small group vacations.
5. Virgin Voyages Cruises. I know, it's not a place, but it is a vacation experience for adult travelers only that is a great vacation that you are going to enjoy and can enjoy to a lot of different places.
4. Paris, France- here's the thing, I love Paris (especially in the springtime). However, it's not actually in my top 5 places to travel to. I include in my top 5 because there is almost always a great deal that will get you to Paris. Now, you can get pretty much get anywhere else in Europe, especially the EU for under $200. Meanwhile, enjoy a great meal and see the tower while you're there before you head off to Avignon, Nice, or Lyon.
3. Germany- I adore Germany. It is a big bang for your buck and can have lots of appeal if you are traveling with others because of this. Food, wine, history, nightlife, shopping, shows, museums, architecture- it ticks all the tourist boxes. Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Hamburg, and Dresden are my top 5 cities! (don't forget Heidelberg)
2. Spain- Spain has mountains, beaches, metropolitan areas... they have it all. Madrid and Barcelona are fabulous, but once you get to Spain, make time to get around and get to the other cities and villages. The offerings are unique and varied. You will not be disappointed.
1. Italy- Aloraaaaa! Italy is my number 1 because it is just one of those places that you visit on vacation and immediately think to yourself, "I could live here." You leave there feeling like you have found your other home. Yes, of course, there is the food and history, both of which are exceptional, but there is so much more to investigate and explore beyond that. Museums are endless with so much artwork. Music, theatre, and nightlife NEVER disappoint. Go to a concert after that delicious meal. See the opera and bask in that glory knowing that this is where so much about making theatre comes from. And do not miss out on the opportunity to see the bars and clubs and super modern vibe existing amongst so much history and beauty. The combination is unrivaled.
Did I get it right? What would you change?
