Think mostly common sense...Want to sleep? Window
Need to stretch or go to bathroom a lot? Aisle
I thought rather amusing if you are in middle and husband and wife have window & aisle can offer to change so they "can sit together". More than likely they hoped plane not full & no one purposely chooses middle. But if they do you still have a window and aisle!

Of course if you got stuck in middle you do ask Gate if by any chance another sit is available. Never hurts to ask!
Middle of plane by wings is a smoother ride. Yes, get as close to front as your ticket allows. Especially if a close connection.
Bulk head is sometimes by bathroom but since I rarely sleep doesn't bother me. Rather just not have someone lay their seat back so worth it!

Bring your backpack down after in the air..no big deal!

Avoid the bathroom areas.

Newark chaos might not be over but just opening this runway hopefully helps!

Runway 4L-22R at Newark Liberty is back—two weeks ahead of schedule. The $121 million rehab project wrapped early, and regular operations resume June 2, offering a rare win for an airport battered by delays and staffing crises.

The 11,000-foot runway had been shut around-the-clock since mid-April, with upgrades to lighting, pavement, and drainage. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy credited “accelerated work” and coordination between the Port Authority, FAA, and airlines. But while the runway opens, the system around it still sputters.

Since late April, Newark has faced a cascade of air traffic control failures—some lasting up to 90 seconds without communication. The FAA is still investigating multiple ATC outages that paralyzed the terminal area, raising alarms about aging infrastructure and a deep staffing shortage. One whistleblower tied the issues to a controversial shift in control from Long Island to Philadelphia.

The Port Authority’s Vision Plan aims to futureproof the airport through 2065. Terminal A’s award-winning debut in 2023 was the first major step. The early runway reopening is the second. But with 3,000 ATC positions still unfilled nationwide, operational turbulence at Newark is far from over.

When I first saw headline I was thinking "what?!" But actually makes sense...Also Been reading where folks share they put things like rings, jewelry, ipads etc in plane pocket and forgot them! Rare they are ever recovered...thinking since we often take shoes off on long flights (I bring slippers) just put a shoe in it?!

I actually do remember!

Did you know?
American Airlines launched SABRE in the 1960s — one of the world’s first real-time computer systems.
It could handle thousands of bookings per hour, revolutionizing how flights were reserved. No more manual charts or phone calls — just blinking screens and speed.

Without SABRE, there would be no Expedia, no Google Flights, no online booking at all.
This was the future — in monochrome.

3 years from now it will not seem like a big deal. But for current loyal clients this could be the end of checking SW flight first. Baggage price is not a big deal for me as I rarely check a bag.
Plus I have airline CC incl SW and so always have a free bag (except Caribbean locations as for some reason they don't honor it)

I don't fly SW often as they might have a direct flight but mostly they are just higher in price for where I want to travel. It really is just about the $$ to me when looking for flight.

After 53 years, the days of “bags fly free” are over at Southwest Airlines.

Planning a trip with the Guys for our Australia/Hawaii trip - or any trips where "you are their ride" takes on new meaning.

It can be frustrating as every detail revolves around making it comfortable and fun for them!

This trip...oh boy!...has been a constant juggle as Airlines change flight schedules! Alaska Airlines bought out Hawaiian Airlines and took away our direct flight home. So, while disappointing, a 2.5 hr layover in San Francisco wasn't the worse, so "go with the flow", right? Then they changed again and showed an 8 hr layover in San Francisco! Well, NO! So called and we found San Diego only had 2.5 layover and can go with that...

American Airlines first gave me 1.5 layover in LAX. Not great but okay. Then changed to 2.5 hr and even better! Then changed to 1hr5min layover and that made me uneasy as from domestic terminal to international terminal and international flights board earlier as Passport checks etc. AA rep worked with me but I checked all options first. Much as I didn't want another connection, settled on going into Dallas with 55 min layover -- not ideal but August is usually a dry time in Texas. I know the Dallas Airport and figure we can make connection. Then we have 3.5 hr layover over in LAX so lots of breathing room.

Qantas changed Sydney to Perth from afternoon flight to morning flight! Not ideal but found cool museum that holds your luggage so can explore till more of a reasonable time to go to host place.

Whew! Hope it is done with changes!

It is why you keep checking flights as sometimes they fail to email you changes (AA, VA, Qantas!).

Solo? I might not have bothered but with 4 of us? Yeah, you rethink things a bit...

But we will be living their "best life" so worth it!

The armrest debate! We normally assume middle seat gets both since stuck in the middle. Apparently occasionally there are disagreements but a United Flight Attendant said after boarding greeting - No one gets 2 armrests! The aisle armrest is no one so the aisle is clear for carts!

Guess make sense but surely can use it at other time! Have you ever battled for an armrest?!

A United Airlines flight attendant recently addressed one of the most contentious issues in air travel: the battle over armrests.

Deborah Gilboa asked in a recent email, what is your set point for "enough is enough". Answering from a "senior's perspective", I thought being stuck day after day with routines....Now I like routines but I need to feel excitement about the future! For me, it's the planning of a trip or a short term NCS job where I get to nurture a new family. I will always have a hunger for experiencing the "unknown"

Just Dandy! They do it on the year we visit! Nah, I don't really mind if the state uses it for the right intentions.

A Hawaiʻi vacation will cost you more in the near future thanks to a new "green fee" that the governor signed into law today.

I have read about these issues before...but yes, been known to plug in to charge in airports. I have also used wifi. But I don't buy things when online there!

I have never had issues with charging. Sometimes I just recharge my power bank for later. In all my years of airport charging, I have never been hacked!

It feels sometimes like we can never relax in this world! Ever feel like that too?
