I have the privilege of working with many families across the NFL and college football, but this trip was a pretty special one. Three generations, three teams across the league. More than a year of planning. And a small miracle that everyone’s schedules actually came together to make it happen. 😅

Time is a rare commodity in the football industry, as those of us who live this crazy life know all too well. To be trusted with planning some of the few moments these families get together each year is something I never take lightly.

As we approach the start of a new season, an extra thank you to each of my football-based families today - you have a very special place in my Disney-planning heart ❤️ ✨🏈

There’s a version of me that existed before July 31, 2021, and there’s a version of me that has existed ever since. Five years ago today, we lost my brother, Jack.

I remember this trip vividly. It was Jack’s very first visit to Disney, and all 60ish pounds of me was absolutely determined to carry him up to every single character so I could introduce him myself. Animal Kingdom had opened recently, but we weren’t going there on this trip. I still made sure Jack was wearing a jungle-themed shirt for his very first ride, The Jungle Cruise (see second photo).

Over the past five years, I’ve found myself saying softer things, like “he passed away from mental illness.” There’s truth in that, but today I want to be completely clear: Jack died by su***de. He deliberately took his own life because of the severity of his mental illness. I’ll never publicly share exactly how he did this. What I will say is that the state in which we found him left no doubt as to what his final intention was. I cannot decide if that makes living in the aftermath easier or worse.

If you’ve known me for some time, my phone and door have been open for conversations about grief, su***de, or mental illness. If you’ve met me more recently, consider this my first invitation. If you ever need someone to sit with you in hard or seemingly unspeakable things, I’m here.

If you took the time to read all of this, thank you. Thank you for remembering Jack. Thank you for taking a few moments to reflect on the reality of mental illness and the heartbreaking way it changes so many lives.

Last-minute magic has been the theme of July! ✨

These are four of the families I’ve had the privilege of helping recently, all deciding to squeeze in one more adventure before summer comes to an end. From a stay at Grand Californian on the west coast, to Pop Century on the east coast, to 3- and 4-night sailings aboard the Wish, we have been making spontaneous Disney dreams happen!
