WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20TH: NEW ADVISORIES POSTED BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FOR AVALON, JERSEY SHORE
Good morning, Avalon. Here is an update on the advisories issued by the National Weather Service as Hurricane Erin draws closer, but remains offshore:
Wind Advisory, Thursday 10:00am-Midnight: Winds may gust up to 50mph. Please secure outdoor objects. Contractors, be sure construction sites are secure before the end of the working day, thank you.
Coastal Flood Watch, Thursday afternoon through Friday evening: Minor to moderate tidal flooding is possible at times of high tide. Never drive through any flood waters as flooding is a temporary condition and can damage your vehicle. High tide will occur Thursday at 7:29pm, and again at 8:24pm at the Townsends Inlet Bridge. The evening high tides are of most concern.
Rip Currents/Rough Surf: The threat for rip currents through Friday is very high; rough surf is expected at least through Thursday. Follow all instructions provided by the Avalon Beach Patrol.
Townsends Inlet Bridge: At times of coastal storm events with strong winds and rough surf, Avalon Police may be forced to close the road leading to the bridge in Avalon for safety. If this occurs, the bridge will not be accessible until wave action is lessened.
