Avon will place seasonal earth planters (flower planters) throughout town over the next week, adding color and vibrancy to key pedestrian areas and highly visible public spaces. These planters have a built-in, self-watering reservoir system that delivers water directly to plant roots. This system reduces evaporation, minimizes runoff, and allows plants to draw water only as needed, making them significantly more efficient than traditional surface watering.

Each planter is estimated to use approximately 5 to 10 gallons of water per week during peak summer conditions, which amounts to 1,000 to 2,000 gallons of total water usage per month for all our earth planter installations. Avon uses its independent raw water system for these planters rather than the Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority’s potable water. The planters will be installed in public plazas, along pedestrian corridors, and in other high-use/high-visibility areas throughout town.
