Hays Travel saved many jobs when they took over Thomas Cook stores but have now said they are looking to cut up to 878 roles.

I'm sorry to read that even more travel industry staff are likely to lose jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thoughts with all affected.

In a further amendment issued this evening the Foreign Office now advise against all non essential travel to ALL of Spain. This now INCLUDES the Canary and Balearic Islands.

If you're booked to go in the next few days, (and most likely weeks) your holiday will almost definitely be cancelled. Like those who were travelling to mainland Spain, you will be able to change the holiday to another destination or date, accept a credit for a future booking or request a full refund.

Bear with your travel agent or tour operator and allow some time for them to contact you. The government issued updates are coming out of hours and with little or no advance warning for the travel industry to prepare to help the thousands of customers affected.

After an increase in COVID-19 cases in Spain over the last few days, the Foreign Office advise against all but essential travel to Spain again. Anyone returning to the UK will need to self isolate for 14 days. (applies to all UK countries)

Anyone due to travel to the mainland while the advisory is in place will likely see their holiday cancelled.

The Balearic and Canary Islands are exempt from the Foreign Office's advice not to travel but anyone returning from there will still have to self isolate for two weeks.
