Weddings at Glen Isle are special. Not because they fit everyone’s idea of what a wedding venue should be, but because there is something extraordinary about the right couple finding this place, seeing all of its perfect imperfections, and dreaming about what they can create here.
Every time a couple drives into the parking lot at Glen Isle and I walk out to meet them, I start almost the same way.
I tell them the story of Glen Isle. I tell them about its history, the people who came before us, and the journey of keeping this old place alive.
And then I ask them how they met.
Because while they’re listening to our story, I’m listening just as carefully to theirs.
Over the years, I’ve learned that Glen Isle isn’t for everyone.
Some people need perfect paint, perfect floors, perfect weather and perfect accommodations. If perfection means polished, predictable and untouched by time, Glen Isle isn’t going to be the right place.
But there are other standards we know very well.
History. Tradition. Spirit. Heart. Creativity. Family. A sense that the place where you gather means something unforgettable.
Those are the people who always seem to find us.
One of my favorite things to tell couples is that Glen Isle is a blank canvas. You can paint almost any picture you want here. We will move things, rearrange things, finagle things and work alongside you as you decide what you want your weekend to look and feel like.
Many weekends this summer, and many weekends each summer since 2019, we’ve celebrated couples who bring their own creativity, thoughtfulness and vision to their weddings. It has been such a joy to watch each one take this old place and make it completely their own.
This weekend was another beautiful example of that.
A couple came in with a vision, thoughtful planning and a wonderful sense of creativity, and they used Glen Isle exactly the way I hope couples will. They saw what it already was and then made it theirs.
They took the history, the cabins, the trees, the old lodge, the quirks and imperfections, and all the pieces that have accumulated here for more than a century, and painted their own picture on that blank canvas.
And that may be one of my favorite things about weddings here.
The history stays.
The traditions stay.
The spirit of this place stays.
But every couple who truly understands Glen Isle leaves a little bit of themselves behind and adds another layer to its story.
