Lake Michigan, which borders Door County Peninsula, has an average depth of 279 feet and reaches a maximum depth of 923 feet. That’s deep enough to hold nearly 1,180 cubic miles of water—making it a true freshwater giant!

Sharing a few seconds of the gorgeous Lake MI shoreline in Jacksonport. Reminding us all what precious, beautiful treasures the Great Lakes are. I hope that you have some time this upcoming Labor Day Weekend, wherever you are, to sit and watch the waves, watch a sunrise or sunset, see seagulls diving in the sky—and find gratefulness, rest and serenity in the beauty of this earth. I think gratefulness leads to happiness and I wish everyone a few minutes—or a whole weekend!—of joy.

Summer's calling...and we gotta say, it sounds pretty incredible—especially for fans of Creek Music Performance Center. Tickets for their 2026 season are currently on sale!

Birch Creek's James N. Dutton Concert Barn is home to over 30 live concerts from June through August, featuring percussion, steel pan and world music, symphony and big band jazz. Concerts feature student music before the main performances by internationally-renowed faculty musicans and Birch Creek's advanced academy students.

Can't catch their performances at their concert barn? Students and faculty also present over 30 outreach concerts in various places around Door County during the summer as well.

Door County isn’t just a place on a map; it’s a collection of the people who lived its history. To mark its 100th anniversary, the Door County Historical Society (DCHS) is launching an effort to ensure those stories aren’t lost to time—but they need the public’s help to find them. The Centennial Multigenerational History Project aims to select exactly 100 residents to represent the spirit of the peninsula.
