Did you know each lodging spot has gardens for guests to enjoy and eat from? They come with additional tent sites too. Did you know the property has a book written about it called, Red Hill, the untold stories of the Whitson Brothers and the Murder of Kyt Byrd?

About those gardens: The main garden is fenced for protection from deer and fowl. Our little slice of heaven features many ornamental gardens with native plants for attracting 🐝 honeybees, 🦋 and hummingbirds. We also plant stuff that repels mosquitoes and flies. Fruit gardens include a huge strawberry patch, blueberries, raspberries, 🍇 grapes, watermelon, peach, nectarine, cherry, apple, dwarf lemon, and pear trees. Vegetable gardens feature: onion mixes, cabbage, huge tomato varieties, rattlesnake green beans, jalapeños, a variety of peppers, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and tomatillos. Herb gardens feature lemon thyme, cilantro, and 2 kinds of basil, oregano, rosemary, dill, and garlic.

Did you know we have lodging? No need to look any further! " 🌟 5 stars. So many great things to say about this adorable tiny house! It’s incredibly cozy and inviting and it’s clear Scott and Christy put their hearts into creating this little gem. The live edge counter, mason jar lanterns, front porch benches and so many other little touches create such a welcoming feeling. And the book light on the bed - such a small thing but also one of my favorites! The location is incredible - the entire property is a work of love, the views, the peace and quiet, and the river right down the road make it a perfect spot to get away from it all. And Christy and Scott are absolutely wonderful! They are thoughtful, sincere, authentic, and welcoming. They are my favorite kind of people and I am so fortunate to have met and shared time with them! They find so much joy in supporting their community, caring for the land, and sharing their love of nature, it is truly beautiful and inspiring. I can’t wait to go back!dorable tiny house! Update: Recent river tests that were done a couple of weeks ago are back and everything is still pretty good! Samples were taken near Penland Post Office, North Toe River.

Results: No hazardous water/mud. This last test did show a small increase in ecoli levels. Water quality is expected to vary some especially with the Army Corps now working on waterway debris removal. Since Spruce Pine is still rebuilding their septic systems and we have a lot of heavy equipment still working on pipes etc, further testing is warranted.

With that said it is important to note that 💩 ecoli can increase after heavy rains 🌧 or be due to agricultural runoff. For perspective Helene the Toe was the second cleanest river in NC and the French Broad (with no rain) regularly tests 8x over the safe for 🏊‍♀️ levels of ecoli. Results for safe swimming on our waterways can be seen online at
swimguide . Org.
🌟 NCOA and Resilient Appalachia Disaster Relief Fund are working to get the Toe listed.

MountainTrue and the French Broad Riverkeeper s are responsible for testing and they deserve a huge financial you and financial support! They are both non-profits! They have been testing, cleaning, and advocating for our WNC rivers for a long time!

We have decided to postpone opening our Toe River Trips until Memorial Day weekend! We apologize for the delay as we typically open 4/1. We can't wait to see you so book now! We have River Tubing singles, doubles, quads, mincats, May-Sept hourly 10-2 with NCOA ,
Flatwater Kayak, Canoe, and more Tues-Sun hourly 10-2 May-Sept with NCOA and whitewater.

Huge shout 👏 🙌 👌 💪 out to CSX Transportation . You guys also have retrieved all the railroad tracks in the Toe and Nolichucky rivers. Thank you! ❤️

Now it's up to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters to get out woody debris, cars 🚗? (A lot seem to be being left), metal etc. I hope they weigh out which woody debris they grab because if we don't leave something for the banks to stabilize and regrow, they will keep washing away.

I would also love to see them dig out a few really deep holes 🕳 🏊‍♂️ for 🐟 the trout. They are cold water fish and come the dog days of summer ☀️ 😮‍💨 they will seek colder water from a shaded river which we no longer have! Then they will try and go into the feeding streams and tributaries which are also stripped of their trees 🌳 🌲! The fish will die if to hot 🔥 🥵, a few deep spots would help with restoring our world-class trout stream!
