How can I help the Loggerhead Turtles?

If you see a nesting or injured sea turtle on the beach, please call the Bald Head Island Conservancy Wildlife Emergency Hotline at 910-457-0089 x 5

Turn off all flashlights or stop by the Bald Head Island Conservancy for some red cellophane to put over your flashlight. Turtles are disoriented by white light, but can’t see red light!

Turn off all outside lights at night as light causes the hatchlings to go in the wrong direction.

Fill in holes on the beach and pack up your beach equipment. Turtles can easily fall into holes or run into your beach gear if left overnight.

Always remember your reusable shopping bags to help reduce the use of plastic.

Keep dogs on a leash.

Adopt a sea turtle nest!

Stay off the dunes and never disturb a turtle nest. Stay quiet and keep your distance if you see and adult sea turtle coming on shore to nest.

Please Report all sightings of nesting turtles, dead turtles, unmarked nests or crawls (looks like a bulldozer came out of the water). Call the Bald Head Island Conservancy at 910-457-0089
