There's been a lot of talk about the new U.S. passport design featuring President tRump's image, and people want to know what their options are.
Here's what you need to know:
The tRUMp-design passport isn't available yet. It won't roll out until 2028. Right now, if you apply for a passport, you're getting the current "next generation" design that's been in use since 2021.
There IS a commemorative passport available now—but it's not the TrumP one. The State Department is offering a limited-edition "Patriot Passport" celebrating America's 250th anniversary. Same security features, special artwork, regular passport fees ($130 to renew, $165 for first-time adult applicants).
Your current passport is still valid. The State Department confirms that older passport designs remain secure and valid for international travel as long as they haven't expired or been damaged. No need to rush out and renew just because a redesign is coming.
So your options:
Want to 👉avoid 👈the Tr_mp design? Renew before 2028 with the current design.
Want the Tr/\mp design? Wait until 2028 to apply.
Want the commemorative "Patriot Passport"? Apply now through special appointments.
Just want to travel? Your current passport works fine.
