What we’ve always known to be true is now official 💙 Boone is officially America’s Best Small Mountain Town, according to Travel + Leisure👏 And we couldn’t describe Boone better than Travel + Leisure’s article, so we’ll just let it speak for itself:

“Rising from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Boone (population 19,811) hums with a renewed spirit.... Long summer days invite you to chase sun-dappled hiking trails, while autumn ignites the mountains in fiery reds and golds, the air rich with the scent of woodsmoke and earth.” Andy Long, a long-time small business owner of Over Yonder says it best. “I love the size of it, small enough to know your neighbors, big enough to have a vibrant dining and music scene. When you talk to people here, it feels like you’ve known them forever.”.

Just last month, Boone was featured in Our State Magazine as the Top Coolest Mountain Town to Visit in NC This Summer ⛰️ Now, we’ve gone national!

You may be wondering, why the push to come to Boone? Last year, almost a month to the day, we were rocked by Hurricane Helene. Effectively shutting our doors to the world for over a month to recover, Boone and the surrounding communities lost key revenue normally generated by “Leaf Season”, a season in which many of our small businesses rely on to stay afloat during the harsh winters that prevent people from coming up to our mountain community. Our small business community is still struggling to recoup that revenue almost a year later. Seeing how our partners both the State of North Carolina AND nationwide are highlighting Boone this year warms our hearts. So, as the 💙 of the High Country, we want to encourage y’all to make a trip up the mountain and come make precious mountain memories with us this fall! A better Howard K**b Park is on the horizon. 🌄

One of Boone’s most beloved views is getting a long overdue refresh, with a little help from the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. Along with a stunning, new accessible overlook (pictured below), we’re renovating the picnic shelter, adding more parking, and creating ADA-friendly trails throughout the 5.7-acre park.

🚧 NOTE: The park is CLOSED through the year, but it’ll be worth the wait!

This is heartbreaking and one of our favorite dining spots in Valle Crucis. If you’re planning a trip to WNC, make plans to eat here while you still can. Helene’s wrath continues. Nearly all WNC businesses count on October revenue to remain profitable.

Dear Friends, 

It’s no secret that we’ve been struggling to survive as a business in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.  So many in our community are.  The debris piles and washed-out bridges we see everyday serve as constant reminders that we are far from “business as usual” in WNC, and losing October just isn’t something we can financially overcome, leaf money is what keeps the heat on and the staff paid through the Winter.  

It is with a heavy heart we announce we will be closing the doors of Over Yonder on Saturday, January 11th.  We had an amazing 10+ year run, and I am filled with gratitude for all the staff, guests, and vendors that were a part of this incredible journey.  Come see us while you can for another drink, another meal, another good time with good people.  Hopefully Yonders can come back one day in one form or another.  In the meantime hug your neighbors, tell your friends and family how much you love them, and hold close the things and moments you cherish.
