Elk River Falls today! Just reopened. It has been closed the past couple of months to allow contactors to remove remaining storm debris and repair Helene flooding damage down river from the falls. It's 12 miles from Banner Elk in Pisgah National Forest, located at the end of Elk River Road in Elk Park. A short but steep trail with roots, rocks and stairs take you down to viewpoint below falls.

Remember to enjoy the 50-foot Elk River Falls from the land. Do not swim or jump from the cliffs! Hidden underwater are turbulent currents that can trap even skilled swimmers, causing serious injuries including death. Plus, hidden storm debris remains under water.
