WHICH RESTAURANT DO I WANT TO KEEP A SECRET THIS FALL? 😉👇🏼

Ok ~ I’ll spill the beans if you spill yours to🍂 I actually have 2 that are kinda “new” / rebuilt this year and I find completely charming. You might want to look into them as the leaves turn and days get cooler. Jen NC Mountain Traveler

Let me reintroduce you to one of my favorite High Country activities, horseback riding! I’m completely smitten with riding through fields of goldenrod and milkweed, with Monarch butterflies fluttering by on a cool, crisp morning. There’s something so peaceful about being on horseback and taking in the beauty of the mountains at a slower pace. You might even catch deer playing peekaboo in the forest, while little surprises along the trail ,like signs warning “Bigfoot Territory”, keep you entertained along the way! There are plenty of wonderful stables to choose from here in the High Country, but I tend to be a repeat rider at Elk Mountain Riding Co. They’ve become one of my favorite ways to experience the beauty of these mountains. Elk Mountain Riding Company
If you’ve never experienced the High Country from horseback, I highly recommend adding it to your mountain adventure list! Jen NC Mountain Traveler - your local sharing what she loves locally!

Let Me Introduce You To~
The Land Of Oz -
Did you know Beech Mountain rolls out the Yellow Brick Road each fall for thousands of visitors to experience the magical Land of Oz?
Originally opened in 1970 as a way to bring tourism to Beech Mountain during the off-ski season, Land of Oz has become a beloved family tradition passed down through generations.
Each September, for three weekends, families and friends can step into the storybook world we’ve all grown to love, with an interactive experience featuring Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and more!
It’s one of those special High Country traditions that truly feels like stepping into another world—and I absolutely love experiencing it each year!
If you’ve never been, I hope you’ll put this magical adventure on your list. For tickets, dates and details on what to expect, be sure to visit the Land of Oz page before you go. Jen ~ your local sharing what she loves about the High Country NC Mountain Traveler 👠🌈🧙Land of Oz

FRIDAY’S FEATURE HIKE or WATERFALL: ELK RIVER FALLS
Elk River Falls is one of the most beautiful and yet most dangerous waterfalls in the NC High Country.

With an easy, short hike leading to this spectacular 50-foot waterfall, it’s a wonderful place to slow down, enjoy nature, have a picnic, or simply sit and take in the beauty of the rushing water.
But there’s an important reminder: this is NOT a place to swim or jump. The water and currents around the falls can be extremely dangerous, and accidents/deaths have happened here.
That being said- come enjoy the beauty of Elk River Falls- just remember to admire it safely ~ Jen NC Mountain Traveler your local sharing what she loves

Who else smiles when you pull up to FREDS?
Fred's General Mercantile Beech Mtn
This building holds so many sweet memories for me! It’s where I’ve enjoyed meals with family, bought some great Winter gear, sat out on the patio to listen to music at the gazebo… (giggled at the photo of a bear walking in the door)
Who else loves this nostalgic business that Fred and his wife created so many years ago? Jen NC Mountain Traveler ~ your High Country local

Yesterday, was a monumental day for Grandfather Mountain’s Mile High Bridge- 74 years since its grand opening ! The original bridge was 288 feet long and completely made of cables (hence original name “Swinging”) Built for Morton’s sweet grandmother who had mobility issues so she would be able to cross, it has been enjoyed by so many visitors since then.
