When the Acadians were forced from Acadia beginning in 1755, their story didn’t end. In fact, tragic love stories- both legendary and true- emerged and defined Acadian culture elsewhere. Cajun culture in Louisiana is definitely worth a visit, a taste, a dance. Amazing to see the tenacity of this 17th century French culture from Maine & Canada!

The legend of a displaced Acadian couple, Evangeline has played an important role in Louisiana history and culture despite its fictional nature.

As a child who spent hours upon hours running barefoot 🦶 on the rocks- 🚨dangerously fast!!- these were my youthful nemeses!!

But it turns out, barnacles are mighty clever, tough, and intentional in their steadfastness. Unlike the fickle whims of a 7 year old, these 🦀-like creatures (yep- I said it! They’re crustaceans!!!) stick around, fighting that intertidal pull - talk about strength!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 So strong in fact that MIT is harnessing their bio-technology to create an adhesive for humans that heals blood soaked wounds in 15 seconds!!

So, on second glance, these creatures are amazing and I officially apologize if I ever crushed any of them in my carefree / careless escapades!

Tours are filling up fast for July!! We have two different tour options, offered daily. One for kids 4-7 years old (Mythical Maine) and another for upper elementary kids (7-10 years old). Information & booking is through our website:

Mythical Maine is for kids 4 - 7 years old. We explore some of the legends lurking in the sea and hiding in the bay, including pirates, sea serpents, and mythical cities made of gold!

Gilded Age indeed!! These 👠 are beautiful!! I am so tempted to dress up on our tours…. The Bar Harbor Historical Society at La Rochelle Mansion was jaw dropping to walk through and read about- so.much.money!! But many of the wealthy who summered here at the turn of the century were philanthropists, without whom Acadia wouldn’t be a National Park, comprised entirely of donated land.

Maybe for just an hour a day, I can walk the walk of a Rockefeller, as we stroll along the Shore Path…
