Inside the unmistakable Swiss chalet on West Main Street, Oliver’s Candies has been making chocolates and sweet treats from traditional family recipes since 1932. For generations, people have stopped here for something to give, something to share and a favorite they keep coming back for.

This time of year, start with a caramel apple and see what else catches your eye for fall. Something for the Halloween party, a surprise for the grandkids—or a few chocolates for yourself.

Then there are the familiar favorites: glazed cashews, hostess squares, truffles and their famous sponge candy. If you grew up here, you probably already have your order. If you’re new here, ask someone theirs.

Marny Cleere and her team are busy baking your fall favorites—apple pies, apple crisp, apple fritter bread and cookies. On Saturdays and Sundays, you’ll find fresh-baked fry cakes, plain or coated in cinnamon sugar.

Pick up something to share at home, along with apples, c***r, pumpkins or a few other seasonal favorites from the farm store. The same family has been here, in the same location, since 1801.

And if you’d like one of their pies on your Thanksgiving table, now’s a good time to get your order in. Call 585-768-7094.

Basom, NY: October 2 | 4–8 PM: Spend Friday evening at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge for Rhythms of the Refuge, bringing together World Migratory Bird Day activities, music and dance.

Learn about the journeys of birds that travel from Western New York to Mexico, Central America and South America. From 5–6:30 PM, Amor and Heritage – Traditional Dance Company will share Hispanic traditions through dance and music.
