Reports have confirmed that a small pod of whales became trapped in the lake after navigating through the St. Lawrence Seaway before ice conditions set in. While rare, similar situations have been documented in the past when marine mammals stray into freshwater systems
With spring approaching and ice beginning to break up, sightings are expected to increase in the Apostle Islands.
