Lots of young sailors out on the water this week! We love teaching young folks all about this beautiful sport and beautiful place. It's one of our favorite parts of this business 🥰

Summer is nearly here! Raptor, our Catalina 36, gently touched down into the water yesterday, to the fanfare of robins and the errant squawk of a seagull.

Thanks to the Marina folks who did a wonderful job, and have always reminded me that they do not 'drop' boats in, nor do they even 'splash' them. The best way to launch your boat is with nary a ripple.

Of course, we'll be making some waves of our own - our first officially open day is this Thursday the 15th! We're so excited to be back out on the big lake and hope you all get a chance to join us in celebrating the water this summer.

It's boatwork season! Xan has been helping us out this year - and their dog, Fenris, is doing their best too. She has been busy keeping the boat covers from flying away and laying in the growing grass.

Your pooch can join the fun, too! All of our private trips are dog-friendly and we love having furry friends of all shapes join us on board.

It's springtime (even if Bayfield still gets snow at night) and we're here with a little sunshine!

We're happy to announce the return of our per-person Discovery trips! It's now easier than ever to take a custom sailing trip out to the Apostle Islands - instead of booking the whole boat, you can now book individual seats on our Discovery trips.

We are offering these on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the normal times of 9am-2:30pm and 3pm to 8:30pm, starting on June 26th until August 23rd. It's exciting to be bringing back this beloved trip and we hope folks are equally excited to hop on board, meet new friends and explore more places.

See you in the summer! It's almost here...

The sailing isn't over just because the water turned hard! Earlier this month, Brontë and a friend (the ever chill ) got a chance to take a spin out on the frozen lake. It was a calm, sunny day so we only got a top speed of 30mph. Still scratched that sailing itch! Can't wait for the next day out there - on ice or water, just feeling that wind transfer into glorious motion.

While the snow and ice are ramping up in earnest in our region, we thought we'd share some island views from this season.

Stay warm out there! Have fun to those of you who love winter, best of luck to those who don't!

We'd like to apologize. Yesterday, we posted about all of that blue light stuff, and the cloudy days wanted to point out a few errors in our argument.

Here's to all the colors of the clouds, those painters who obsess over their shading and refraction, who know the light more intimately than any; letting it pass through them, straining it like baleen whales and breaking down the pure white into a variety of colors that will captivate us forever. From the wild stormlight to the sunset showings, the clouds truly know how to make the most of the light that falls on them.

"The world is blue at its edges and in its depths. This blue is the light that got lost. Light at the blue end of the spectrum does not travel the whole distance from the sun to us. It disperses among the molecules of the air, it scatters in water. Water is colorless, shallow water appears to be the color of whatever lies underneath it, but deep water is full of this scattered light, the purer the water the deeper the blue. The sky is blue for the same reason, but the blue at the horizon, the blue of land that seems to be dissolving into the sky, is a deeper, dreamier, melancholy blue, the blue at the farthest reaches of the places where you see for miles, the blue of distance. This light that does not touch us, does not travel the whole distance, the light that gets lose, gives us the beauty of the world, so much of which is in the color blue."

Time flies when you're preparing for the slow season! Here's a couple of photos of the fall, of things put away, of what we do with our extra time, and those bright moments in the sharp afternoons, where the sun still overpowers the crisp air.

With solar flares popping off nearly every week this summer, we have been feeling a little too spoiled with the Northern Lights. They would often appear as soft-glowing clouds that hung like a gray blanket over the northern horizon. We had cruised out to Rocky Island and were enjoying a late night (okay, it was 9pm, but the sun sets so early these days) chat on deck, watching the weak lights as they wobbled gently, and then went down to play cards.

When we came back up to close up the boat for the night, it was to a light show like seldom we have ever seen. And while the camera does exaggerate the light, it fails to capture the movement, the shimmering and dancing that are so integral to this natural wonder. Nonetheless, we're happy to share our photos with you - and hope you are so lucky the next time you're out late at night.
