Welcome the newest hen to our flock, Lost Girl. She wandered over from the neighbor’s flock and decided to never leave. 😂 (the neighbor said it’s fine, he likely has one of ours that showed up one day lol)

I found some native, variegated fritillary caterpillars today who were chomping away T my native passionflower. Thankfully, the chickens did not.

I never not get excited when I see a Monarch. They really love to feed on goldenrod. I believe this one is Solidago altisima.

Another good from the woods … parmesan cheese! Like ice cream, parmesan cheese also uses cellulose. Cellulose is one of the most common FDA-approved food additives. The cellulose molecule is extracted from wood pulp. Cellulose helps to prevent shredded cheese from clumping.

It’s been a busy solstice. Lots of work to do in the garden. We have peaches and elderberries coming in along wirh blackberries and chickasaw plums. Just have to keep picking off the Japanese beetles early in the morning before It warms up and they start flying again.
Sadly, some of my pollinator garden has been impacted by aster yellow, a bacterial disease impacting plants in the Asteraceae family.

Getting some prescribed burning experience in with the Triangle Prescribed Burn Association. Hoping to become a certified burn boss in the next year.
Prescribed burning is the only way I’m going to eradicate Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) on my property.
