I love this annual event!

🐝 The countdown is on. We're just two and half weeks away from the Great Southeast Pollinator Census!

At least 57 events will be hosted by more than a quarter of our state's 100 counties. 🎉 You're welcome to attend one of these free local events and participate in the count on August 22 or 23, 2025.

Another good from the woods … parmesan cheese! Like ice cream, parmesan cheese also uses cellulose. Cellulose is one of the most common FDA-approved food additives. The cellulose molecule is extracted from wood pulp. Cellulose helps to prevent shredded cheese from clumping.

It’s been a busy solstice. Lots of work to do in the garden. We have peaches and elderberries coming in along wirh blackberries and chickasaw plums. Just have to keep picking off the Japanese beetles early in the morning before It warms up and they start flying again.
Sadly, some of my pollinator garden has been impacted by aster yellow, a bacterial disease impacting plants in the Asteraceae family.

Getting some prescribed burning experience in with the Triangle Prescribed Burn Association. Hoping to become a certified burn boss in the next year.
Prescribed burning is the only way I’m going to eradicate Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) on my property.

Often people think about the cute side of owning livestock but then you have to remind them you have to also deal with things like a chicken getting its eye pecked out. 😢

When a couple of cardinals find a small crevice to enter the chicken coop but then panic because they cant figure out how to get out and you capture one to free it before the chickens eat it but it bites your finger and refuses to let go.
Getting bit aggressively by a cardinal is a first on the homestead. 😆
