Good day to all you horse lovers and shelling fanatics. Today, Wednesday September 9, and we have plenty of openings this week, departing daily at 9:00am, for the Shackleford Wild Horse and Shelling Safari. The weather will be great going into the cooler days.
A rare experience with nature you’ll never forget! Track the Wild Horses of Shackleford Banks with your experienced guide and collect North Carolina’s best shells!
Enjoy a 25-minute ferry ride over to the pristine Outer Banks Island of Shackleford Banks, which is part of Cape Lookout National Seashore There, you will have the opportunity to see the wild horses. This free roaming herd is believed to be descendants of horses that were brought to the United States roughly 400 years ago. They are one of the last isolated groups of wild horses in the United States.
After the tour, you will be directed to one of the best shelling beaches in all of North Carolina. Spend some time on your own shelling your way down the beach with the Cape Lookout Lighthouse off in the distance.

New week started, August 10, and lots of spots available for Safari Tours on Shackleford Banks daily at 9:00 am. The Naturalist will lead you through the dunes and along the way will tell you about the history and ecosystem of Shackleford Banks. Along the tour, you will learn behaviors, history, and how these horses have survived hundreds of years. These magnificent animals are one of the last isolated groups of wild horses in the United States. You will walk through the dunes to find the wild horses grazing, drinking, or the rare sight of stallions fighting.

After the tour, you are directed to one of the best shelling beaches in all of North Carolina. Collect conchs, whelks, queen’s helmets, scotch bonnets, olive shells, sand dollars, and more unique shells. Or enjoy the views of the Crystal Coast while relaxing on the Banks.
