What are we? A group of about 70 men and women who share a common interest in fly fishing. This group meets on the third Wednesday from September through June each year. We take July and August off. What do the meetings involve? The meetings start at 6:00 p.m. with a social hour followed by a speaker or film. What is the members fishing background? Some are long time salt water fly fisherman. Some
come to the area with fresh water experience and are interested in learning about salt water fly fishing. Others have never done any fly fishing but are interested in learning more about the sport. SIFF offers fly casting clinics, a year-round tournament, socials, monthly fly-tying classes, a mentor program and a wading clinic. Do I have to have a boat to participate? About half the group are boat owners and half are not. In fact, many of those who own boats are always looking for a crew on their fishing excursions. Many that wade are happy to show you the ropes. What tournaments is the club involved with? Throughout the year the club sponsors an ongoing quarterly tournament. Novices as well as experienced fisherman are welcome. What are the costs? An annual family membership costs $40.00. What other projects is the club involved with? At the moment the club is involved in the Low Country Institute’s Osprey Monitoring Project. A number of the members are also active participants in the redfish tagging program and involved in oyster restoration project. Do I have to join to attend a meeting? You are welcome to come as a guest. Where do you meet? The club usually meets at Bay Street Outfitters, 815 Bay Street in Downtown Beaufort. Who do I call if I have additional questions?
