Beaver Dam is situated just 40 minutes northeast of Madison, 90 minutes northwest of Milwaukee, 90 minutes south of Appleton, and 2 1/2 hours north of Chicago. From pouring concrete on farms, dams and bridges in 1950…
…to helping families fill their homes with reliable appliances since 1970…
this family-owned business has been a cornerstone of Beaver Dam for three generations.

📍 Located at 130 E Mackie St, Beaver Gunite & Appliance began when Newman & Lorraine Hove started their Gunite contracting business—specializing in pneumatically applied concrete for projects like barns, silos, bridges, and more. In 1970, they purchased Starkweather Lumber & Builders location to expand appliance sales and service. By 1977, their daughter Karen and her husband Ron Bussewitz took over the business so Newman and Lorraine could retire.

Today, the tradition continues with Karen’s son Robert leading Gunite projects across Wisconsin—focusing on silo relining, barn wall resurfacing, basement walls, and sandblasting—while daughter Deb keeps the office running smoothly.

🎉 The Beaver Dam Chamber Ambassadors were honored to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Beaver Gunite & Appliance! 🎉

What began in 1950 with Newman & Lorraine Hove’s Gunite contracting business—specializing in pneumatically applied concrete—grew into a trusted appliance store when they purchased the Starkweather Lumber & Builders location at 130 E Mackie St in 1970. In 1977, their daughter Karen and her husband Ron Bussewitz took over, and today the third generation continues the family tradition.

Robert Bussewitz leads Gunite projects across Wisconsin, while Deb Schmidt keeps the office running smoothly—proving this business is truly a family affair.
