Awesome 8 days driving around Southern California starting in the Mohave Preserve and Joshua Tree, exploring Palm Springs and San Diego and then indulging our inner child at both Disneyland and Universal Studios!

Cardiff Bay and The Barrage
First confused back in the 1980s as a way to revitalise the bay, that suffered from awful mudflats at all times other than a couple of hours either side of high tide, the barrage was completed in 1999 and is a calorie place to wander, enjoy the views and sea air and end up at a bar for a drink with a view!
A “must see” on a trip to Cardiff!

Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth
Built as part of the redevelopment of Portsmouth Harbour the tower design is based on the spinnaker sail used on sail boats and is quite a striking addition to the skyline!

Menai Straits Adventure
The Britannia Bridge suffered a catastophic fire in 1970 and was rebuilt 10 years later to include a road deck as well as the railway line. Unfortunately the addition of the road deck means the stone lions guarding the entrances of the bridge can no longer be seen.
Along with the "memorial" to the old box-girder structure it was a perfect excuse for a little adventure on the way back home earlier in the week - the lions have such presence and it really is a shame they are hidden! It's also amazing to think the bridge used to be a simple box girder spanning between the stone piers!

Today’s Adventure - Shrewsbury to Anglesey
Adventures can be as simple as not taking the freeway / motorway and exploring a town you would otherwise bypass!
Choosing not to take the Conwy Tunnel under the harbour and drive through the town itself meant being able to explore the triple bridges crossing the River Conwy - Robert Stephenson’s box-girder railway bridge; Thomas Telford’s suspension bridge, that originally carried the traffic into the town and the modern road bridge now taking the traffic into the town.

Today's Adventure
Caer Caradoc, The Shropshire Hills
Managed to catch a bit of good weather this morning and head out to one of my favorite hills. It’s named for the remains of the iron/Bronze Age hill fort on the top - Caer Caradog meaning Caradog’s Fort in Welsh which over time has changed to Caradoc. The views from the top are absolutely spectacular! The Lawley is in the foreground and the Wrekin in the distance.

Another Place : Sir Antony Gormley
Having visited "Inside Australia" in the Western Australian outback last year, the opportunity to finally visit Another Place on Crosby Beach on the way back from Glasgow couldn't be missed!
Weird, captivating and definitely controversial when it was first installed here in the UK it's a must see if you like Sir Antony's work!
