I leave home tomorrow

Zimbabwe is not just a destination for me. It is my heart, my home, my life's calling, and the soul behind KapuAfrica Travel.

Every time I leave my home, I leave a piece of myself behind

Zimbabwe has endured so much. Through decades of economic hardship, uncertainty, and challenge, the people of this beautiful country continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience, kindness, generosity, and hope.

As author Cathy Buckle has written for more than 25 years in her "Letter from Zimbabwe," it is the warmth, courage, and humanity of ordinary Zimbabweans that continue to define this nation far more than its struggles.

In her latest letter, Cathy writes a truth that brings me to tears:
"When time comes for me to leave the wilderness it’s hard to say goodbye to the guardians of this place, men and women working so hard for so little, far from their families, often in dangerous situations. They are ever smiling, ever thankful and I give what little I can, encouraging them to keep believing in the good, keep protecting Zimbabwe’s wild places. It’s a touching farewell. 'Come back soon,' they say and I swallow a lump in my throat as I head out into the approaching dawn. The following day a message comes on my phone asking if I had a safe trip home and thanking me for staying at their camp. This is the real heart of Zimbabwe."

And that is exactly why I return, again and again. And that is why I long to show you my home. As I know and love her:
For the people.
For the wild places.
For the guardians of this magnificent land.

Zimbabwe does not simply welcome you—it changes you forever.

Thank you, Lord, for being born in Zimbabwe, for shaping my life, inspiring my dreams, and reminding me every single day what truly matters.

Until I return, part of my heart will always remain with you. 🇿🇼 and I will continue to love and support my people.
